On Wednesday May 18th the 3rd Annual GEMS(Girls Empowered by Math & Science) Conference will be held at UWParkside. Girls Inc of Racine is THRILLED to welcome our guest speaker, Kayla Carter, Prairie School Graduate. Kayla Carter is a lead Systems Engineer in the medical products group at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH. As a lead systems engineer, she manages a cross-functional team in the development of electro-mechanical medical devices. Kayla assists clients in commercializing new medical devices for the advancement of the healthcare industry. Over the last several years as a Systems Engineer, she has worked on a variety of new medical device advancements including neural bypass technology, assistive devices, diagnostic devices, and combination products like dry powder inhalers. She is the founder of a nonprofit startup designed to expose underrepresented minorities to engineering and entrepreneurship through rapid prototyping. She has a B.S in Bioengineering from Syracuse University where she had a successful career as a Heptathlete on the Track and Field team. Following graduation, she obtained her M.S. in Healthcare Technology Management from Marquette University, and this fall she will become a PhD candidate in Engineering Education at Purdue University. Outside of all of her accomplishments over the years, in her downtime she can be found climbing the ranks as a collegiate women’s basketball official, spending time with family, or traveling the world. She is from Racine, WI, graduate of The Prairie School. She currently resides in Columbus, OH. Smart, Strong & Bold!
